Our Fingerprint

Anchor Baptist Church: A First Century Church for the present day!

Fingerprint?

A fingerprint is a way to identify a person. In the following material, we give a small sample of our beliefs that help identify this body of believers. Our plan is for our website to grow with more helpful things; including Bible teaching. In the mean time, should you desire clarity on a topic, please let us help you with that. BiblICAL Authority

Some may refer to experience, creeds, or other pieces of literature to help shape their faith. Yet for us, we do our best to only refer to and use the Bible, when it comes to discerning and defining spiritual things. At Anchor Baptist, we strive to live by the scripture alone and exclusively use the King James Bible.

Note: We are not Arminian nor Calvinist. We strive to be Biblicists.

Autonomous

We are a true independent church. We are not contracted, fellowshipped, or tied to any other group of churches, organizations, institutions, etc.

This does not mean we view ourselves better, nor that we are unthankful for other churches. We confess there are many great groups and good churches.

We are autonomous due to what we see in the scripture. Churches in the pages of the Bible functioned autonomously; and we want to follow that teaching and example.

Priesthood Of the Born Again

We confess that Jesus, through the new birth, makes one a priest. A priest in the sense of the verse below:

But ye are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, an holy nation, a peculiar people; that ye should shew forth the praises of him who hath called you out of darkness into his marvellous light:  -1 Peter 2:9

The priesthood allows us to confess our sins directly to God: affording us forgiveness, renewal, comfort, and help!

Two Offices In The Church

In scriptures dealing with the church, we see that some offices share various titles. Through comparing scripture with scripture we see all these titles refer to only two offices in the church. We at Anchor Baptist use the titles, “Pastor” and “Deacon.”

While we have many other people in our church and on staff that do so much for the Lord, we confess these titles to be the ones ordained of God.

Individual Soul Liberty

We see that each person will give account of himself before God. We are not organized to dictate a persons faith, but to help each person know the word of GOD so they are equipped to serve and one day stand before God.

So then every one of us shall give account of himself to God.  -Romans 14:12

SepAration

The Bible has much to say about separation. Scriptures teach that each Christian is to live a lifestyle that is separated from sinful and worldly things. This means in our hearts, minds, homes, and places of work, we should be holy. This separation defines our behaviors, entertainment, fashion, choice of marriage, and many other things.

This also means we cannot let the state dictate our worship as individuals or a local church.

We also confess that a “holier than thou” attitude is utterly wrong, and is not a trait of those who practice biblical separation.

Two Ordinances

Looking to the Word of God, we find there are only two ordinances: The Lord’s supper and Baptism.

While there are other wonderful things God teaches us to practice, we see these to be the ordinances of a church.
